Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday, directed law enforcement to apprehend criminal gangs responsible for the ongoing cross-border clashes along the Narok-Kisii border.

Murkomen outlined a series of security measures aimed at restoring peace in the region, which has been plagued by intense conflict between the two communities.

"Security personnel are under instruction to apprehend those involved in crime and disband criminal gangs in the area,” Murkomen stated.

The CS who visited the area and engaged in peace discussions with local leaders and residents, announced that the government would establish new administrative units to help curb the ongoing conflict.

"Individuals who steal cattle do not do so as agents of a community and they should be dealt with as such criminals who deserve the severest punishment in accordance with the law," said Murkomen.

Additionally, he revealed that security in the region would be reinforced with more police posts along the border and an increased deployment of officers.

Further, the government plans to procure 5,000 additional vehicles to support law enforcement efforts, he said.

Murkomen also revealed plans to upgrade the road along the border region, aiming to enhance trade and improve access to security services.

Accompanied by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos and South Mugirango Constituency Silvanus Osoro, Murkomen underscored the importance of strengthening security at the grassroots level.

He further announced that a policy was being developed to formally recognize and support village elders in their role as community leaders.
